Thanksgiving feasts, part one

Wow, first non-boring post.
And first food related post! (I promise I'll put more on here, I really do promise.)
As you know, Thanksgiving (also known as fatass day) was today!
I did a lot of cooking today, and of course I documented it. I never leave my camera.
First, I'll share some of my heritage with you all. I'm about half German, and during Thanksgiving we ate a very simple, but very yummy German side called Spatzle. It's a really easy dish. And just to tease you all, here's the recipe.
STRAIGHT from my Oma's all German cookbook. :D

I can understand it, can you? xD

Well, even if you can't, here's the recipe.
1 pound, or 4 cups or flour
3 eggs
3/8 of a liter or water
and 1 one 2 finely chopped onions if desired (it adds a bit of a kick!)
You'll also need a good sized pot of simmering salt water.

Your first step is to mix the flour, eggs, and water until the batter is runny, about the consistency of pancake batter, with minimal lumps.
If you use onions, finely chop them and brown them in a skillet.

Next, you'll need a strainer.
Take your batter filled bowl and hold it over the strainer, and hold the strainer over the simmering water pot.
You're going to slowly pour the batter into the strainer, and let the batter fall through the holes. If your batter isn't as runny, like mine was, you may need a spoon or a flexible spatula to force the batter through.

After that, you just need to boil the small, oddly shaped batter balls until they're tender to the bite.

When you finish boiling them, you'll need to get a clean strainer, or clean the one you used, and strain the Spatzel.
After straining, we're going to brown them in a skillet. You can use the same skillet if you browned some onions for the dish. If you did make onions, you'll be browning the Spatzel with them.

Don't brown them too much, though. Just a slight golden brown color.

And you're done! You can add whatever you like, anything from gravy to cheese to fruit.
I opted for parmesan cheese. So yummy!

And there you have it, a yummy and simple side dish that goes with pretty much anything.
